(로스앤젤레스 및 뮌헨 2022년 2월 17일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) M850i xDrive Gran Coupe의 99대 한정판 모델이 제프 쿤스(Jeff Koons)와 BMW의 긴밀한 협업을 통해 제작됐다. 이에 따라 BMW 8시리즈와 제프 쿤스의 합작 'THE 8 X JEFF KOONS'를 통해 BMW 역사상 가장 정교하게 디자인된 차량이 전 세계 관객에게 공개될 예정이다.

아티스트 제프 쿤스는 "제프 쿤스 BMW 8 시리즈 에디션은 나의 드림카로, 시승이 무척 기다려진다"면서 "다른 사람들도 나처럼 Gran Coupe를 즐기기를 바란다"고 말했다.

이 에디션은 매주 단 4대의 차량만 도색된다. 내부는 고급 소재와 고급 가죽으로 이뤄지며, 컵 홀더 뚜껑에 에디션 배지와 아티스트 서명이 새겨져 있다. 좌석은 코믹북 세계의 슈퍼히어로들과 BMW M의 색상을 반영한 빨간색과 파란색으로 구성된다. 강렬한 색상 라인은 2010 BMW Art Car에 대한 아티스트의 오마주이며, "POP!"과 증기 추력 이미지는 THE 8 X JEFF KOONS의 힘과 속도를 상징한다.

THE 8 X JEFF KOONS는 제프 쿤스의 서명이 담긴 1대의 차량이 4월 4일 뉴욕 크리스티즈(Christie's) 경매에 출품되기 전까지 맨해튼의 록펠러 플라자에 전시될 예정이다. 최고 입찰가액의 전체 수익금은 국제실종착취아동센터(International Center for Missing & Exploited Children, ICMEC)에 전달될 예정이다. 제프 쿤스는 20년 넘게 이 비영리 NGO에 개인적으로 참여했다.

THE 8 X JEFF KOONS: the US artist has created his dream car with BMW

LOS ANGELES and MUNICH, Feb. 16, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- In an exclusive edition of 99 automobiles, a limited number of the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe were created by Jeff Koons and BMW in close collaboration. With THE 8 X JEFF KOONS, the most elaborately designed vehicle in all of BMW's history will be presented to a global audience.

Jeff Koons, artist: "My edition of the BMW 8 Series is my dream car! I can't wait to drive it and ride in it, and I hope that people will enjoy the Gran Coupe just as much as I do."

Only four cars will be painted each week. The interior is comprised of high-end materials, fine leather and a cupholder lid with an edition badging and the artist's signature. The seats are made up of the red and blue which reflects the colors of superheroes from the comic book universe as well as those of BMW M. The exploding lines of color are an homage to the artist's 2010 BMW Art Car, while the "POP!" and the vapor thrust imagery symbolize the power and speed of THE 8 X JEFF KOONS.

THE 8 X JEFF KOONS will be on display in Manhattan's Rockefeller Plaza before one vehicle, signed by Jeff Koons, will be auctioned off at Christie's in New York on April 4. All proceeds from the highest bid will go to the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC). Jeff Koons has been personally involved with this nonprofit NGO for over two decades.
