(워싱턴 2022년 5월 5일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) 세계 루푸스 연맹(World Lupus Federation)[https://worldlupusfederation.org/ ]에서 최근 진행한 국제 설문 조사에 따르면 루푸스를 앓고 있는 설문 조사 응답자의 87%가 루푸스가 한 개 이상의 주요 기관 또는 기관계에 영향을 미쳤다고 답변했다. 100개국 이상에서 6,700명 이상의 루푸스 환자들이 이 설문 조사에 참여했다.

루푸스는 만성 자가면역질환으로, 모든 신체 부위에서 일반적으로 감염에 대항하는 면역 체계가 건강한 조직을 대신 공격하여 염증과 통증을 유발한다.

응답자의 거의 4분의 3이 여러 기관이 영향을 받았으며, 평균 3개의 기관이 영향을 받았다고 답변했다. 피부(60%)와 뼈(45%)는 가장 일반적으로 루푸스의 영향을 받은 것으로 보고된 기관이었으며, 그 외 가장 많이 영향을 받은 기관 및 기관계로는 신장(36%), GI/소화계(34%), 눈(31%) 및 중추신경계(26%)가 있다.

World Lupus Federation Global Survey of People Living with Lupus finds 87% Report at Least One Major Organ Affected by the Disease

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- In a recent international survey, the World Lupus Federation [https://worldlupusfederation.org/ ] found that 87% of the survey respondents living with lupus reported that the disease has impacted one or more major organs or organ systems. Over 6,700 people with lupus participated in the survey from over 100 countries.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation and pain in any part of the body where the immune system, which usually fights infections, attacks healthy tissue instead.

Nearly three-quarters of respondents reported multiple organs impacted, with an average of three organs affected. Skin (60%) and bones (45%) were the most commonly reported organs affected by lupus, in addition to other top impacted organs and organ systems including kidneys (36%), GI/Digestive system (34%), eyes (31%) and central nervous system (26%).

"Unfortunately, people living with lupus are told that they 'don't look sick,' when in reality they are battling a disease that can be attacking any organ in their body and causing countless symptoms and other serious health complications," said Stevan W. Among the survey respondents reporting organ impact, over half (53%) were hospitalized because of organ damage caused by lupus and 42% were told by a doctor that due to lupus they have irreversible organ damage.

The impact of lupus on the body goes beyond physical symptoms. Most respondents (89%) reported that lupus-related organ damage led to at least one significant challenge to their quality of life, such as:

- Participation in social or recreational activities (59%)
- Mental health problems (38%)
- Inability to work / unemployment (33%)
- Financial insecurity (33%)
- Mobility or transportation challenges (33%)
