LIAOCHENG, China Oct 18, 2024 /AsiaNet=연합뉴스/-- On October 15, the 2024 China Pear Industry Annual Conference and Guanxian County Su Pear High-Quality Development Conference were held in Guanxian County, Shandong Province, attracting over 300 attendees from fruit circulation industry associations, universities, research institutes, and industry elites from across the country.

The pear industry is a traditional and advantageous sector in Guanxian County, with a planting history of over 2,100 years. Currently, the area dedicated to pear trees featuring Su Pear, Ya Pear, Qiuyue Pear, Fengshui Pear, and Huangjin Pear has reached 50,000 mu, with an annual production of 170,000 tons, making it a well-known "fruit basket" in Shandong. The county's vast "First Pear Garden of China," covering tens of thousands of mu, has hosted the Pear Garden Cultural Tourism Week for 19 sessions, receiving over 100,000 visitors annually. In 2022, Guanxian County Ya Pear was included in the "National List of Famous and Special New Agricultural Products."

In recent years, the local government has collaborated with universities and research institutions to cultivate new varieties of pear trees, strengthen the Su Pear brand, enhance the recognition of Guanxian County Su Pear, and promote the high-end transformation of the pear industry for high-quality development.

"They are large, flavorful, very late-maturing, storage-resistant and highly resilient, with a sugar content of over 15%," said Zhang Zongying, associate professor from Shandong Agricultural University. Su Pear uses a multi-source quality breeding method, hybridizing New Pear No. 7 as the mother with Dangshan Su Pear as the father through grafting and propagation techniques. Guanxian County is the original producing area of Shandong Su Pear; Guanxian Su Pear has grown from 50 mu to over 10,000 mu as a registered regional public brand.

"The sandy soil and distinct four-season climate of the Yellow River floodplain create an exceptional environment for pear cultivation, enabling Guanxian County Su Pear to exhibit remarkable qualities such as thin skin, substantial size, small seeds, white flesh, a crispy and sweet flavor, juiciness without residue, and antioxidant properties. The largest pears can exceed 3 catties in weight. Consequently, the reputation of Guanxian County Su Pear continues to grow," stated Cao Rongjun, manager of Guanxian County Guanyou Agricultural Co., Ltd.

To enhance the brand of "High-quality Su Pear," Guanxian County will vigorously implement the "11341" project for the pear industry, aiming to build a high-quality development demonstration zone for China's pear industry. This includes forming a task group specifically for the development of the pear industry and carrying out the "Three Quality" actions focused on superior varieties, quality improvement, and brand strengthening. The plan establishes four major systems for scientific research promotion, quality traceability, market marketing, and brand promotion, with the goal of surpassing an annual production of 100 million catties of pear within five years.

At this conference, representatives from national high-quality new retail channel enterprises and supply chain companies from Guanxian County signed agreements for the supply and sales cooperation of Guanxian County Su Pear.

Awards were presented for the 2024 Guanxian County Su Pear King (weighing 2,011 grams) and the Most Beautiful Guanxian County Su Pear, as well as to the Guanxian County Su Pear Standardized Planting Demonstration Base.

Six experts were given appointment letters as Guanxian County Su Pear technology advisors.

During the event, participants toured the Guanxian County Guanyou Digital Orchard, the First Pear Garden of China, and the Guanxian County Ganoderma Technology Demonstration Garden.

There were also lecture presentations on the 2024 fresh pear production and sales analysis, the China Fruit Circulation Association Pear Branch work conference, and activities related to the sales of Guanxian County Su Pear seedlings and pear products.
